  • Time spent sitting linked to sleep apnoea severity

Seems obvious, but it goes quite deep.

Canadian researchers have identified a new risk factor for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in normal-weight men: too much sitting.

The more time a man spends seated during the day, Dr. Stefania Redolfi of the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute and her colleagues found, the greater is the volume of fluid that shifts from his legs to his neck overnight; and the greater the fluid shift, the worse the OSA.

Interesting. I work from home and spend my day sat in front of a computer. So not good then.

Interesting indeed, like so many folk these days, my working day is spent lashed to a computer - with the mandatory 5 minute 'screen break' every hour of course. Then its home to sit in front of my own computer for my photography, or sat in an easy chair reading (dozing!) or watching the idiot box. I do get a lot more walking done at the weekend, perhaps when the lighter nights come along I shall get more during the week too...
