  • Hmmm Odd results

My other half is now using CPAP - she is struggling to get the pressure / mask right - and is currently using 11.5 pressure.

However - she's getting odd results.. some nights 2.9 AHI some nights 5.9. so two questions..

One any ideas why that may happen ?

And secondly would 5.9 consitutue compliance ?

(at 12 she can't currently cope).

The NHS measures compliance merely by counting the number of usage. Four hours is enough! I wouldn't settle for that though.

Sub 5 AHI would mean that clinically, she's apnoea free. I wouldn't settle for that either, as in Tigers Fans thread, that means she's still waking every 12 minutes or so.

The 2.9 one is a good one to try and stick with. The fluctuation can be down to a number of things:

    - Alcohol consumption
    - Blocked nose
    - Body position (sleep on her back vs side)
    - Even state of mind, perhaps causing more movement and then more mask interference

So keep tweaking but I'd say don't be alamred when the odd 6 AHI night happens. The long term average is more important.

      On your back

      Hi chelseauk

Because it is my bete noir, I'll guess your other half achieves AHI 5.9 on nights when she spends more time sleeping on her back than on 2.9 nights.

Guess two: has she had a drink (alcohol) before bed on 5.9 nights?

Does 5.9 constitute compliance? For what? If for driving/DVLA, the test is that she does not feel sleepy during the day. They don't work on a number.

Not alcohol - doesn't really drink.

          Yes: http://www.antisnoreshirt.com/

Stuff stitched on the back to prevent one from sleeping on his/her back.

There's more brands so don't take the link as a verified endorsement.

            Going for a song

            Hi chelseauk

No-one replied to my offer of an anti-snore shirt to try out - but I have two XL shirts and a set of inflatables for the back pockets.

I didn't like them but wondered if anyone else wanted to see if they got a better result. Your other half and/or you are welcome to give them a try for the cost of the postage. If you like them, a contribution to offset my purchase costs would be appreciated. One shirt worn two nights, the other not at all, both laundered and ironed by my own fair hand.

Anyone else if chelseauk doesn't want them?

            PM me.
