  • Where do i start

First of all hello everyone im new here

I have had a rubbish life up til now, sister was taken by the social, mum was driven mad by them and now mentally ill. Just come out of hospital for a knee operation only to be told its arthritis. Before going into theatre was told i had sleep apnea. Spent the next 24 hours on a 50% oxygen mix (apparently quite high?), couldnt be disharged because i coul walk on the leg they operated on. Got hit by a sheep sideways on thursday and now waiting for another MRi scan to find out if its torn a cartillage in my other knee!

As for the sleep apnea, the doctor said nothing and i dont know what i should be dong about it?

    Can anyone help?

    Hi James,

    Welcome to these forums.

That's a long history of bad luck. Fingers crossed it's upwards from here!

When they said you have sleep apnoea, did they say why they thought you have that?

In terms of where to start, a confirmation/diagnosis of the fact you have it is where to start.

Some tools that may get you further:

http://www.sleep-tests.co.uk - take the Epworth test and show your doctor.
http://www.cpap.co.uk - see on the map where the nearest sleep clinic is and ask your doctor for a referral to it. You can also ring the clinic to find out how big the queue is. This may help you decide whether you want to consider private options.

That's the first steps. In short, get a sleep study done in the hospital or in-home to confirm whether you are a mild, moderate or severe case.

NHS options have to be researched via your GP/local sleep clinic. Private options I can tell you more about when you're ready/if interested.

I scored 15 on the test.

Been to see my doctor (personal GP, not the hospital one) yesterday and he has done a refferal to the clinic. Not sure what the waiting list is though but thought i should get the ball rolling. Been trying to ignore it for the past fews weeks as had sooo much to take in!

They told me while i was in the operation anesthetic room. One of the doctors in there was looking at my charts etc and asked me question about did i feel tired when and etc and he said i had sleep apnea. Thats the last thing i can remember before i was put to sleep

          Thanks for the confidence booster

The doctors seemed quite worried about it in the hospital and like i said, they had me on a quite high oxygen mix solidly till i was discharged
