  • Help me overcome CPAP Insomnia

    Hello there,

This is my first post here.

I'm 49, male, and I've been recently diagnosed with sleep apnoea (17 AHI per hour, O2 levels dropping to 76%).

I've been using CPAP for two months now. I use the Lowenstein Prisma machine with the F&P Brevida nasal pillows.

My issue is that I just can't sleep on CPAP. I've been using CPAP every night for the past two months but I can only manage about 2.5 hours fully awake on the machine before I take it off; after that I fall asleep. I've tried white, pink and brown noise, earplugs, music and audiobooks, but to no avail.

Can anyone help me with this? I'm starting to feel like I might never master CPAP and I'm willing to try anything.

Thanks for taking the time to read this post.

    J.

    Good Afternoon,

    Thank you for your post.

Let me ask a few questions to see how we can help you....

Please can you advise if you have a fixed pressure machine or an auto CPAP machine?
What pressure settings are on your machine? Do you have a ramp time set? If so how long?
Do you breathe through your nose only or your nose and mouth (ie do you snore)?
Can you see the data on your machine to see what your AHI (sleep apnoea events per hour) are, and whether you get a good mask fit or get any leakage.

What do you think is the main reason why you are not falling asleep with the mask on?
Have you tried just wearing the mask for a a period of time prior to going to sleep to get use to it?
Is it the noise of the machine or the pressure increase?

If you can give me as much information I will see what I can suggest to help you.

If you do not feel comfortable replying to this message on the forum, you can email me at [email protected]
