  • Unable to wear mask anymore!

    Hi all,

wondered if anyone can help please?

been using CPAP since 2005 and usually don’t have any issues. However, the last several months I cannot get on with having the mask on. I have COPD but that’s never been an issue before.

I am currently on sick leave due to depression caused by bullying at work and since I went off in February this has seemed to happen.

I have tried different masks, had the pressure reduced and changes made by my sleep clinic to reduce pressure during exhale.

it seems I can have the mask on for max upto 25 minutes.

this is really upsetting for me now as using it gives me a great nights sleep.

I am nodding off but only getting about 2 - 3 hrs poor quality sleep without the CPAP.

Any help greatly appreciated as need a good sleep.

    Good Morning,

    Thank you for your email.

Please can you advise which CPAP machine you are using and the pressure settings in your machine.

Which mask(s) have you tried and what exactly is the problem with each mask?

How old is the mask you are currently using? Is there any wear or tear to the mask? Is it as effective as when you first had it.

Do you breathe through your nose only or your nose and your mouth? If you breathe through your nose only then you need a nasal mask. If you breathe through your nose and mouth (ie if you snore) then you need a full face mask. Do you have the right type of mask for how you breathe?

Do you have the correct mask size for your face? Have you used a sizing guide to check?

Do you get a good seal with your mask or do you have any leakage?

If you can see the data on your machine can you see what your AHI (sleep apnoea events per hour) are and whether there is any leakage?

If you can come back to me re the above, then I will see what I can do to help you.

    Kelly
