  • A bit scared newly diagnosed

everyone, thank goodness I’ve found you!!.
I was diagnosed with mild sleep apnea in 2016 & told I didn’t need a mask. I was recently tested again & the result has left me flabbergasted. It’s now severe & my reading was 77.8 episodes an hour. I’m being fitted with a mask on the 6th March & been told as long as I keep treatment up I can carry on driving. It’s left me feeling really scared (happy that I’m getting treatment). Just wondered how you all coped when you found out & did it freak you out?. I’m worried about my job as I work in the community. I’m 54 this year & had a heart attack 4 years ago so wondering if this contributed to it.any advice would be welcome. Thank you

    Good Afternoon

    Thank you for your post.

Please do not be worried. You have been tested and are going to get treatment for sleep apnoea. The CPAP machine and mask is the gold standard treatment for sleep apnoea.

If you have concerns about driving then here is the link to the sleep apnoea trusts DVLA section on their website - https://sleep-apnoea-trust.org/drivi...-sleep-apnoea/

Also you have this forum to help you, and you can email our customer service team at [email protected] if you need any help once you have your mask and machine.

It is alot of information to take in and we are happy to help if you have any questions.

    Kelly
