  • Possible sleep apnea sufferer looking for advice

    Hey all,

Have had issue with poor sleep quality and daytime tiredness for years (I'm 36 now and at least been like this the last 10 years, probably closer to 15) Have always had poor sleep patterns and just got by with it. Suffer from depression which I have attributed much of my lack of energy to. However when im on antidepressants, I dont feel depressed anymore, well no where near the level I did, but Im still tired and dont have the energy to do anything I dont have to, ie. I go to work, do what must be done, and the rest of the time Im lounging about going nowhere as I cant muster the energy for it.

On a night out with friends, a few pints and I'll literally fall asleep anywhere. But I dont fall asleep at work, or when driving, I can do what I need to do, but feel exhausted and fed up more often than not.

On videoing myself sleeping in the past, I do seem to come to near awake and moan a bit quite often during the night, I've found myself stuggling to breath and woke up numerous times in the past and more recently with what feels like my uvula blocking the passage to my nostrils.

Its, odd, as it appears to let me breath in fine, but when relaxed and I breath out, it flips up and blocks my airway preventing me breath out, until enough pressure builds up that it forces my mouth open. I've been reluctant to get an at home sleep study kit as I'm doubtfull my oxygen saturation would show much affect, but its definetly brining me close to being awake if not waking me up quite regular.

Anyone have OSA where its their uvula thats the issue and its breathing out they struggle with rather than trying to get air in?

I'f I go to the GP and go through their suggested routes and they confirmed it, would CPAP actually help in this case? as it seems when I breath out that the uvula would flap up regardless of the pressure of the machine.

    Good Morning,

    Thank you for your post.

I would suggest clicking on the following link to see if you suffer from the Key Signs and Symptoms of Sleep Apnoea - https://www.sleeptest.co.uk/obstructive-sleep-apnea/

If so, then I would recommend getting test with sleep apnoea. This can be done with the NHS or you can use our In Home Sleep test Service - https://www.sleeptest.co.uk/product/in-home-sleep-test/
This is quick, confidential and can be done in the comfort of your own home. We aim to have the results to you in 2 weeks.

If you are unsure or have any concerns then I would suggest having a chat with your GP.

    Kelly
