Newly diagnosed not sure what happens next - Scottish NHS

Hi,

I had a sleep test done by the Scottish NHS about 6 weeks ago, after waiting since January to get it, given all the Covid problems I thought that was quite quick. The results came back as AHI 24, putting me in the moderate group. I'm waiting to see the consultant which will probably be a telephone appointment due to Covid, and the clinic reckons it will be after Christmas at the earliest.
I have so many questions,
How bad is AHI 24, I'm 55 and a little overweight, don't smoke or drink. How worried should I be.
Also what is the next stage after speaking to the consultant, how long do you think I'll have to wait for treatment.
At AHI 24 what treatment will be offered,

The scale of sleep apnoea is

1. An AHI of under 5 - Is inconclusive
2. An AHI of 4-15 is - Mild
3. An AHI of 15-30 is Moderate
4. An AHI of 30 or above is Severe

Moderate sleep apnoea can be treat with a mandibular device, Provent Sleep Therapy or Somnibel Positional Sleep Therapy Trainer depending upon your results and what the sleep technician recommends. However the gold star treatment for sleep apnoea is a CPAP machine, if you are suitable and it is recommended.

I would suggest asking for a copy of your sleep test results to see what they say, and see if they can advise how long the waiting list is.

I cannot comment on your treatment without seeing what the sleep technician recommended for you based on your sleep test results.
