  • so tired

    Hi all
First time on osa forum, it has been interesting reading the other posts and helpful. I have had a cpap machine (sleepstyle 232) since aug 07 it has taken a long time to get use to the mask have tried two and went back to the original one flexfit 407. I seem to get on with it well now.
My problem being i feel so tired still, why i dont know, i take all of 5 mins to go to sleep my partner says i sleep like a log, i dont wake up through the night. when i do wake up i dont wont to get up i have no energy through the day, my work is suffering, my concentration is poor. i do shift work starts 3.30pm - finish 3.30pm the following day for 6 days then 3 days off. I am in a dead sleep from 10.45 to 7am
whilst at work. I recently had a 12 day holiday i felt so rested but within a two days of being back at work. i feel soooooooooooo tired. I dont know what to do i get so down about it.
    Any suggestions

    Hi twizzel

are you using your equipment at work? if not that may explain the excessive tired feelings

Hi mate, am I reading your shift times right, 6 times 24 hours on followed by 3 days off?

Should it read 6 times 12 hours. Either way thats a lot of hours per shift. Its no wonder you are feeling so tired. I used to do 4 times 12 hours then 3 days off. I used to sleep most of the 5th day just to catch up.

i,ll try and get this right 6 days on 3days of start at 3.30pm till 3.30pm following day for 6 days then my 3 days of. yes it is tiring but i have been doing this fo 10 years now, i was diagnosed when i had my appendix out, they couldnt bring me round properly and when i did wake up it wasnt for long. It seemed to cause a few problems at the time.

i do wonder if i am using the mask properly, as i am so tired and i dont wake up through the night. i dont notice a proble with the mask. Hope that make sense

i forgot to say i do sleep in those 24 hours at work from 10.45pm till 7am

It could be that you need a follow up appointment at the sleep clinic to check your compliance with the setting you have. They may need upping a tad. I had my gall badder removed Fed 07 and it took me a good 9 months to fully get over the op. It could be that you are still recovering. Either that or you have some other underlying problem.

I would get yourself down to the sleep clinic first.

Presumably you've had your thyroid and bloods checked? It seems easy for me to get a bit anaemic, which makes me feel grotty(er). You can buy ferrous sulphate B.P. cheaply for iron, or of course it's in all multivitamins.

Of course SA does nasty things to your blood - from the point of view of oxygen saturation (and conversely going on CPAP does odd things too) some of the members on here have had some issues giving blood post cpap.

Just the problem I've had, low iron levels. Too low for blood donation, yet not low enough to be anaemic. Turns out I could be gluten intolerant, wheat or anything with wheat in it, causes malabsorbition of minerals in the gut. So you feel totally buggered at times, even when you are O.K. on Cpap.

                      Hi all

i didnt realise ( didnt think) how much a cpap machine can disrupt your body
should i talk this through at the clinic, as my doctor doesnt seem to know a lot about sleep apnea, would the clinic do blood tests??
I seem to be going round in circles

I don't think my GP knows anything! The sleep centre I went to is in a hospital though so they sent me down the corridoor for a blood test.
There's no harm in trying a multivitamin, if your bod's short of something it'll just top it up and dump the rest.

My GP is very tame, a relationship that we have built up over the last 10 years. As I am in a high rise group, diabetes, I get a battery of blood tests on an annual basis. The blood is taken at the surgery and sent away for testing.

I would check with the sleep clinic first, then bend your GP's ear next.

                            Hi Puffin,

There is a body of thought out there that suggests OSA can have an affect on how your body handles insulin, have you noticed a better glucose control since you started using CPAP?
                            Regards, GV

                              Hi Gvader
Fortunatly I'm not a diabetic, my younger brother is and my mother was and my fathers brother was, so its on both sides of the family. Hense the annual checks.

Sorry I could not answer you question. I seem to remember someone mentioning it on here in the past. Do a search on it.
