  • Looking For Diagnosis Advice

    Good Morning All

Please bear with me as I am new to the forum and the whole sleep apnea world and to be honest I am very stressed.

My symptoms first came to light when I started falling asleep at work.

I work in an office in front of a PC all day and I initially put it down to that.

Having spoken to my GP it was suggested that I had sleep apnea and the first thing to try was losing weight (I am 5ft 10" and 20 st)

I have tried this and lost 2 stone but it kind of stalled at this point.

To cut a long story short, this has now come to light in my workplace and I am in fear of losing my job.

I am sure if I could get passed this I could continue to lose the weight needed.

My problem is that I am now desperate to get this diagnosed and my GP and local hospital are not the easiest people to deal with.

I have looked into a private diagnosis but am not sure how good these are.

Also once diagnosed where do I go from there, do I still need to go through the NHS for treatment? Do I still have to wait? Can I rent the equipment and bypass the NHS altogether?

I am getting is such a state over this and its not helping my depression that I am also treated for.

If somebody can give me some plain language advice I would be most grateful.

Many thanks for taking the time to read this.

    All the best

    Graham

    Hi Graham,

    Thank you for your post.

If you are looking to be tested for sleep apnoea, then you can do this through the NHS (which may take some time), or look to do a private sleep test.

We (Intus Healthcare) offer an In Home Sleep Test. It can confirm Sleep Apnoea quickly, with results in two weeks. If positive, you can get the equipment you need and start sleeping properly again.

An in-home test is simple, requires no appointments, and confidential. It's an ideal option for people in your situation. You can read more about it here: https://www.sleeptest.co.uk/detailed...-watchpat.html

If the In Home Sleep Test results are indicative of Sleep Apnoea and the sleep technicians recommends a CPAP machine, then we can help you look at the CPAP machines and mask to help get you started. We are also available for any aftercare or help with your CPAP equipment should you have any questions.

If you have any questions or would like to talk to us about the In Home Sleep Test or CPAP equipment, then please call us on 0800 024 8050 / email [email protected], and we would be happy to help you.

      Hi Kelly

      Many thanks for the response.

Does your company just sell the equipment or can it be rented ?

Can I use your diagnosis to rent from other companies if this is not something you offer?

      Regards

      Graham.

        Hi Graham,

The In Home Sleep Test is renting the equipment to do the test.

The CPAP equipment that we sell on https://www.cpap.co.uk/shop.html is to purchase. We do not loan or rent any of the CPAP equipment due to hygiene reasons. However we do spend the time with our customers to help them look at the equipment they need, and advise them as much as we can so that they can purchase the right equipment for the individual requirements.

If you did our In Home Sleep Test, then you can use our results letter to ask your doctor to refer you to an NHS sleep clinic, although the NHS like to test their patients themselves, but it is worth asking your doctor if they would accept private sleep test results. With regards to other companies, you would need to check with them as to what requirements they need, but yes it should be suitable in most cases.
