  • CPAP back ache

I have been on CPAP for two years but regularly get lower back pain (and sometimes rib pain). I am wondering if the restricted movement of being connected up is responsible? - most people turn over many times.

Absolutely - I get aches and pains now - You do turn over less (There is another thread on this very problem on here somewhere).

I'd recommend a 2-3 inch memory foam topper - reduces pressure points - oh and a heat pad.

    Works wonders !

Another contributing aspect for most of us could be our weight. Gravitational pull on what tends to be a somewhat enlarged frame for most sleep apnoea patients will compress your discs during the day. Have a look at 'inversion therapy' if you suspect this might be the case for you.

And yes, a good mattress will go a long way to reducing problems.

          backache

I have been using cpap for 2 weeks now and having some difficulties adjusting. Initially I was waking up with pain in my face where the mask had been digging in so I made a point of sleeping on my back. This has reduced the facial pain but now I am waking in the early hours of the morning with intense pain between my shoulder blades, as if someone has been sitting on me. At the moment I feel more tired than I did before using CPAP.
