  • VERY dry mouth indeed

    Good afternoon all,

I trust everyone had a nice Christmas and New Years?

I have been using my RESMED S8 with humidifier for a few years now and generally no major problems, until recently.

I'm finding I'm getting a VERY dry mouth and I cannot figure out why? The humidifier is on and working, I'm drinking plenty of fluids and don't feel dehydrated anytime other than when I wake up. In fact it wakes me up. Imagine how you feel after a massive night out drinking and smoking and you've pretty much got how I feel every morning. It's so bad that it wakes me up and makes me feel sick until I've had some squash.

Any ideas? I can't turn the humidifier up any higher as it runs out of water too quickly and the resulting smell and taste wakes me up (when the chamber dries out). My hose is in a tube wrap too.

Any ideas would be gratefully received!
    Thanks,
    Ewan

Would a chin strap to keep my mouth shut work do you think?

Depending on the type of mask you are using, you could try it with just a bandage round your chin and over your head.
I have found that when the humidifier runs out of water it is horrible and worse than not having one as far as taste in the mouth goes.
Depending on the pressure you are on a chin strap might help, but if you are on high pressure it might still leak through your lips.
Only way is to try it.
