  • regular check ups

How many of you get annual check ups from the hospital? my friend who also suffers from OSA get's his appointment through every year without fail.

I have never received any call backs whatsoever, I was just wondering if I'm the only one or is it a case of having to chase them up for an appointment.

    cheers

Chase them up. The machine needs servicing/calibrating and checking for electrical safety. Has yours got a sticker on it stating last test date/next test date, as it should have. It is provided to you under the same rules that cover office equipment and should be certified as a Portable Electrical Appliance. Your mask and tubing will also be checked. My hospital also makes me do a question sheet on sleep habits each time, so they can compare history. I also have to go back every six months.

My Clinic does not do regular check-ups, it is a cost balancing thing.... if they provide all their OSA patients(currently over 7000) with yearly checks then that limits the time and money available for the diagnosis and treatment of new patients.

That does not mean that they provide less of a service, if you need to see them you can phone and arrange an appointment or discuss machines masks etc with the very knowledgeable Sleep Nurses.

My machine started playing up last year, I phoned Monday...on Tuesday I collected a new machine and was shown hoew it worked and what the main differences were between it and the previous one.

So you see, not all sleep clinics follow the same pattern, but it is always worth asking the question, yours may well do checkups.......

You could all move to Nottinghamshire - the service is second to none!

But it's in Nottinghampshire, I've heard scary stories.

Ha Ha. I was a bit dubious about moving up here in 1999, but it is not all bad. I live close to the Derbyshire border, so I can escape to the Peaks for some quality time.

I get annual reviews by email - have never had the machine checked. I think I'll contact them. They're good about supplying spares though. I assume if you're doing well with CPAP they leave you alone which suits me.

                    Hi Stevie,
If they did not contact you, you must contact them and go for a regular checkup as to know your health improvement and change in medication. We must go for a regular checkup even if we don't have any health problem to know about our health status.
