  • AHI Increasing

    Hi Folks.

Looking for some advice, I have been using an APAP machine now for four months ReSmed S9 Auto with H5i Humidifier and Climate line hose, my AHI when I started was 55.3 per hour. Over the last three months I managed to get it down to 0.2 being my lowest reading and averaging around 0.8 -1.2 but in the last week or so it has started creeping up and last night it was 4.8, is this a standard thing or is something going on.
Can normally get around seven hours sleep, I wake up a couple of times a night with a very dry mouth and throat even though I use a humidifier which is on maximum humidity but when sleeping I seem to get a very deep sleep, some nights when I wake I am aching and stiff from having not moved.

    Any thought appreciated.

There could be any number of reasons so look for what you have changed in the last week - or what has changed around you. Is your duvet thick enough for this weather?

To what TF said I would add - did you put on weight over Christmas? Have you been drinking alcohol late in the evening, or any other dietary things change?

Mine seems to creeps up when I am particularly wound up or more worried than usual.

I would't worry too much about it anyway - you need an AHI over 5 to be classed as Mild Sleep Apnoea, so 4.8 doesn't quite get there. I think it is fair to say we will all vary a little for all sorts of little reasons. If your AHI is below 5, or even a little higher than that, it isn't something to worry about... and probably if you stop worrying about it you will find it drops a little.

Thanks to Tigers Fan,Barely Awake and Fredxx for replying, its just when you think you have cracked it at 0.2 or below 1 and then suddenly it goes up.

My first thought was is my filter blocked and was I not getting enough pressure so changed that, nothing else had changed in my routine, as Tigers Fan suggested about the cold, I am one of the unusual ones, I prefer the cold always have done and seeing as we had just had a new boiler installed I thought perhaps the bedroom was warmer so have been turning the thermostat down, of course the other half is not happy.
The other funny thing is that since the increase in my AHI reading I have been feeling better in myself, sleeping longer and having no leaks etc with the mask.

Will see how things go and I have a meeting with the sleep clinic on the 8th Feb.
