Off to Papworth I go

Well, I'm off to the RSSC at Papworth this afternoon for my annual "sleepover" ! I'm just cheesed off because it's over the weekend, but with me working away a lot now, I guess it's the only time I can get in.

Well, apart from the lousy food (which can be overcome by the kebab van conveniently parked outside the hospital, or I could do a Prof. Stephen Hawking and get a take away in, as he did when we were sharing a ward a couple of years ago) and the fact that you have to spend large chunks of time doing nothing until you decide to call it a night, at least I will be getting a new mask to replace my now completely useless one (Oh how I've hated using my spare "full facer" ).

Let's hope I get discharged a.s.a.p tomorrow morning so I can at least spend some decent time with my family before I have to go up north again on Monday.

I'll keep you posted on any interesting things I find out whilst I am there.

Well, there's a thing !

Just called Papworth, as you are instructed to do on the morning of your admission, to check on bed availability, and it turns out they're full and have had to turn away a few patients like myself.

Anyway, I'll be calling in to get my new bits on Monday, on my way to Crewe.

Good job I didn't have to cancel anything major to go there today.

At least now I can spend my weekend with my family

Thats good news at least.

There does seem to be a big difference in the way some hospitals do the monitoring. My Clinic just gives me the kit and sends me home, all I do then is just return it next day and wait for the results (10/20mins at most). While others, like yourself, seem to have to spend the night in an expensive hospital bed.

Perhaps it's down to the budget of each hospital? I suspect that if as in my case they can save on bed costs, then more people are benefiting from having machines. Hopefully!

Well, I was quite keen to get in this time as this will be my first test since my Septoplasty. And I needed a new mask and humidifier tank, but I'll pick those up on Monday.
