  • Power cuts and batteries

As the wintry weather continued I suspect that there is more and more chance - or even likelihood - of power cuts and I was sure that the nurse who sent me on my way with my CPAP unit said it could be used with a battery. Despite downloading the manual I cannot see a battery slot (there or on the actual machine). Mind you I can#t see where to get an AHI reading either so it's probably just me....

I have a RemStar Series M CPAP 101M - anyone know anything re batteries (or AHI readings) on them?

    Hi Nuki

Your machine runs on 12V, as supplied by the transformer that came with it (the little black box between the machine and the wall socket). So you need a battery to replace the little black box - the connection at the machine is by the same shape of plug as you have now and into the same place. (Please look in the label - it's 12V I think from memory. Check it's not stepped down to 6V. I think not as that lacks power)

You can buy very expensive CPAP battery packs or you can buy car/lorry batteries and fashion your own cable/connectors. There are several threads about this - and Silvercarper, who is currently posting, found his own solution.

I can't find anything about a 101M. I have an M APAP and an M CPAP. On both of these, the Patients' Data is under the flap on top, press the '+' button and then the arrow above it. Only gives week and month averages though.

The real info is in the Clinicians' Menu but you need to find out yourself how to access that. Should not be used except by someone knowledgable about PAPing.

The battery plugs into the same jack as you plug the power lead from the mains (via the external transformer)

Thanks TF - great info and thanks for almost getting there before him Mel... :-)

I got some figures by "pressing the '+' button and then the arrow above it", just not what I was looking for. I'll leave it for a bit and see how it goes before asking the sleep lab ( if feel things aren't improving) about checking the data/resetting the pressure. They said it can take a long time even when wearing the mask all night before it makes any difference. Ah well....

I'll also look around at previous threads before posting questions from now on, sorry, I know that can be frustrating for those who've been around the forum for a while.
