  • Red blood cell count

    I was just wondering !

About 18 months ago i had a blood test and my red blood cell count was high ! Doctor didn't know why (don't smoke and no recent operation).

I wonder if it was because of SA. After all red cells carry oxygen and as my SA Test said down to 30% and i didn't die..

I wonder if the two are linked ?

We've been debating this very issue in a thread here http://forums.cpap.co.uk/showthread.php?t=130 but my limited in-depth knowledge of all variables involved led me to postpone coming to a home-grown conclusion. Need to read more into it, talk to a few people.

In principle, there is indeed a link between OSA and your blood so I wouldn't be surprised if what you say is true. But how exactly one influences the other is, like many things in the human anatomy, a mystery.

Perhaps Acebass can ask this question at the SATA conference this weekend. There's bound to be some knowledgeable people on the subject.
