I have just returned from a weekend away - on booking the room, i specified in writing i needed a socket beside/adjacent to the bed for a medical device. On arrival was allocated a room with no socket anyway near the bed. I complained and explained i needed a socket for a medical device and the best they could do for me was offer me an extension lead (which took three hours to deliver to hotel room and then had to be drapped from one side of the room to the other (health & safety issue) as this was the only socket available.

This is the second time i have visited a hotel whereby they do not have sockets beside the bed to cater for my cpap machine. If a hotel provides a lead and someone e.g. maid/partner/myself etc fell over same who would be liable ???

Felt like a right nag, complaining over no socket for my "medical device" !!!

    Big G preserve us!

Have we gone completely bonkers??? Rhetorical question.

Why would anyone - including you, Topgal, your husband, room maid, butler, Prime Minister or anyone else be walking around your room during the time you needed the lead draped around or across your room - when you were in bed asleep?

OK, so you were pee-d of at the hotel, your choice. Why make an H&S compensation claim out of it?

Take a Greek island holiday and you need to take your own extension lead.

      Plug socket access.

I too have had experiences of the lack of power sockets near to the bed, the new hotels, when they are built, do not put power sockets adjacent to the bed to comply with health and safety, the reason is that some people move the hospitality tea coffe making facility so that they can make their cuppa whilst still in bed and there is a risk of them scolding themselves and others in the bed.
Have no worries about employees risk, as the hotel will have employee liability insurance which will include public liability to meet the needs of those in the room that trip over the lead.
I also, along with TF carry a single socket extension lead to make life easier for myself; as waiting for the hotel staff to locate a lead can take time.
I don't make light of your concerns and efforts that you have made to ensure the hotel furnished your needs, however most people have no comprehension of what OSA is?, as neither have they ever experienced what we sufferers use to get a good nights sleep, I bet you have only ever shown your CPAP to a few people and probably only let your nearest and dearest see you with it fitted and in use?. I think you need to put your frustrations down to a learning curve and be better prepared for your next adventure.
      Best wishes
      Alex.

I spend a lot of nights in hotel rooms and learnt very quickly that an extension lead was a pretty essential piece of kit to carry with the CPAP machine. I always have a 5m double socket one, then I can charge mobile phones or whatever over night as well.

I always leave the extension lead set up and have never had any problems or comments.

TF - thanks for your nice reply ! I have never in my life made a claim nor plan to. As i was only diagnosed in July this is all new to me and a learning curve. I know now to bring my own extension lead in future.

Yep - extension lead is a must in the luggage. Along with the machinery masks hose and adaptors. Surprising there is room for clothes.

I quite frequently stay in hotels and now always take an extension lead. I do ask in advance if there is a socket near the bed but mostly there isn't. As for tripping over the lead, well, I'm careful. Not really a problem once you get used to having to cart around Darth plus lead every time you go away.

                extension leads

Always worth phoning the hotel in advance to check if you need to take a lead. All Premier Inns are issued with one lead for guest use and they are permitted to buy more if needed.

With you all the way here.

I don't see it as a Hotel's responsibility to provide for my needs when a simple extension cable will suffice.

To the OP. If you carry one yourself, this never need be a problem again.

As for tripping over wires, put the cable round the edge of the room. It's not rocket science.
