  • Another possible benefit of CPAP

As an olympic-class snorer and night-time thrasher - I thought I was sleeping but not really at all as the sleep study showed. Very shallow breathing and multiple instances of "pausing" Been on CPAP now for 6 months - took a good while to get used to it but ok now. Besides the very deep sleep, noticed another positive side effect.
I used to have real problems with nasal congestion, mucus build up and frequent ear/nose/throat infections. Since CPAP, very little problem. Now you would think that the efffect of a hair-drier blowing into you would sweep all the nasty bugs straight into your lungs but it doesn't seem to be that way. I can only think that the CPAP besides keeping the airway open is actually making me breathe properly and deeply and preventing things building up.

    Anybody got any similar thoughts?

I am sure what you are saying is true

I expect that it is because your general health has improved, and your resistance to infection is higher, I had some pretty nasty conditions previous to getting my machine.

Some of which I would not have got, If I had had the regenerative benefit of sleep.
