  • Help - My nose is going to fall off!!

    Hi there,
I was hoping somebody might have some advice for me?

I tried a smaller mask about a month ago and it rubbed my nose and caused a blister. A month later and it still hasn't healed and I'm now on anti biotics to try and clear a possible infection.

Problems is, is that its right where my mask sits and keeps rubbing it and so it wont heal. I also wear glasses! I've tried all sorts. Compeed. Padded plasters. Cushion pads my sleep ap doc gave me. Nothing seems to help except for not wearing my mask.

I am loathe to not wear my mask as my apnoea is very severe and if i miss a night of CPAP now I feel like I have been beaten up.

I went to the docs today and he gave me anti biotics to clear any possible infection, but does anyone have any ideas on something that works or something I can do to cushion and numb the increasing pain?

Compeed worked really well on my feet when I was mountain walking but hasnt worked much on my nose!

Any help would be much appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Ewan

If you are desparate enough .....

    Hi EwanJon

They work like magic but I've only ever used them for wounds not in the centre of my face.

Browse St John Ambulance's range of first aid supplies. Quality bandages, dressings, and medical equipment for workplace safety.

They go really yeuky and look worse - but when the goo leaks out, your wound is healed. Erm! it takes a few days to get really 'ripe' and you would look like - attention getting.

Cheers TF, will have a look into that.

I've looked a bit like Rudolph the red nosed reindeer for the past 4 weeks so a bit more won't hurt!

      lol....

      Thanks

        Aha!

        Hi EwanJon

I've just received an e-mail from a third party saying that the Respironics FitLife mask is worn by " ........... and people waiting for facial sores to heal."

£175 in UK or a lot less at £65 if you have a contact in the States.

They are very comfortable and ideally suited to folk who sleep like the dead, including being on their back. I am shortly to re-visit such a mask and try to get the hang of it.

          Hi TF,

Many thanks for that. I wish I had £175 to buy one, but I'm wondering if my sleep clinic people would loan me one? Worth an ask.

          Thanks!
