  • Puritan Bennett Breeze Sleepgear Nasal Pillows Mask

    Hi Folks

I would be grateful if anyone can give me any feedback on the Latest designed Puritan Bennett Breeze Sleepgear Nasal Pillows Mask.
I am a relatively new CPAP user who has, so far, endured 160 hours of sleep deprived discomfort with no sign yet that I am likely to be able to tolerate CPAP therapy. This is largely due to problems with leakage from masks. I have been given a nasal Mask, a full face mask and nasal pillows and, so far, nothing seems to be working for me. I have to be careful not to get leaks up into my eyes as I have had a corneal erosion, a very painful eye condition, which could be at risk of becoming a problem again.
I have been trying to get as much information as I can on available masks and I think that the Puritan Bennett model mentioned above may be a better fit for me as I am a side sleeper who tends to turn my face quite far into the pillow.
Any feedback from members who have experience of this mask would therefore be much appreciated.
    Many Thanks
    BenAnne

    Hi,

Is this the one you mean?

I was given this one from the hospital, I have not used often it due to:

3rd night the part that holds the nasal pillows broke where it joins to the headgear.
The adjuster on the nasal pillow will not stay tight causing the pillows to come free of the nose.
I can't get it to stay on the nose properly, it needs a strap from the nasal pillow shell up to the ears to hold it in place.

It is far from the worst one I have tried.

    Hope this helps?

The one I use at the moment I can't beat (though it has its faults) it is more adjustable and less easily broken. But I am told by the hospital they can no longer supply it in the UK. I could if I really wanted it, to purchase it abroad.
I can't find it on this site

      Hi BenAnne

I use that mask and find it works ok for me. It tends to adjust itself if you move alot so I have applied tape to the moving bits after getting the fit just right. I also sleep on my side and tend to push my face into the pillow which of course pushes the nasal pillows out of your nostrils. I now use quite a thick pillow and sleep on my side with my face over the edge of the pillow. Seems to work for me. Keep experimenting and good luck.

As with Andy's findings, what works for one can be a disaster for another, and the other way around. Ultimately, you won't know until you try. Fundamentally, there are no bad masks, but some people may not get on with masks others think the world of.

In comparison to othe rnasal pillow masks like the Opus by Fisher & Paykel, the Breeze is quite bulky yet solid.

          Masks are the Key!

          Hi BenAnne,

It is a bit trial and error but mask comfort is king - search through the site and you'll find dozens of threads saying the same thing.

Like you I sleep on my side and tend to push the mask into the pillow as I sleep and I have a very heavy head, the only mask that seems to tolerate such abuse I have found is the Resmed Liberty hybrid. It has a small mouth section with telescoping nasal pillows above. You can get spares easily (next day usually direct from Resmed in Abingdon Oxon).

The other key I have found that makes sleep much better is using a ramp pillow (it supports your neck and prevents spine side curvature whilst on your side) This combination has yielded the best results for me. It is worth everything to get the best sleep possible. Some have tried in excess of five different mask/pillow combinations to get the solution to work for them.

Hope this helps - get onto You Tube and search for video of the different types it certainly helped me understand and see what happens while you are in the land of nod ZZZZ

          Keep us posted - cheers
