  • Low flow with Mirage II swift nasal pillows?

    Hi there

I have been given a resmed escape II CPAP and had my pressures set while using the full face Ultra Mirage mask. I needed 8cm H2O according to the auto-titration machine. The full face mask has been driving me nuts, so they gave me a set of nasal pillows - mirage swift II - which I have not been able to use, due to discomfort, until I got my humidifier yesterday.

I can now wear them comfortably, but now I am back to waking up gasping for air and feeling suffocated again, the very problem I was trying to avoid! Is it possible that with nasal pillows, the pressure needs to be upgraded over what would be needed for full face? I love the pillows and dont want to have to stop using them!

    Things I have considered:

Nasal blockage: With the full face I am pretty sure I never breathe through my mouth because the mask doesnt really allow me to, it sits right under my lip - so I dont think its nasal blockage or I would have the same issue with the full face. Additionally, the moment I wake up I can breathe fine, so there is no blockage at all, I am just having an apnea.

    Thank you

Yuo can also consider a chin strap to help keep the mouth closed so the nasal pillows can do their thing.

It shouldn't need a big difference in core pressure.
