  • Just switched from Nose to full face Mirage

I must be doing something very wrong. My nose mask worked great. As soon as I put the Mirage Full Face Quatro on, all I got was continuous air flow. If I opened my mouth, or just faked a snore, nothing happened. What could I be doing wrong?

    Que?

    Hi Mickey

    Welcome to the forum.

I fail to understand your question! Your mask makes no difference to the things you describe.

The 'C' of CPAP is for 'Constant'or 'Continuous'.

Can I take it that the differences you noticed resulted only from swapping the mask on the end of your hose - no changes to your machine?

Do you use a CPAP or an APAP?

If you open your mouth, the air may still be going through your nose.

Here is what I mean about my Mirage

With my old Nasal mask, if I opened my mouth with my nose mask, which I do when I snore, air rushed at an enormous speed down my throat. I understand this is to keep my air passage open. When I use the full face mask, nothing happens. If I fake snoring, there is no rush of air through my air passage.

But are you waking up with similar energy as the nasal mask gave you?

Do you perhaps have an Auto-CPAP with reporting to check the new mask is doing as well as the old one?

And did you consider a chin strap in combination with the nasal mask?

I suspect it is just a sensory difference. When you open your mouth with a nasal mask, air escapes from your mouth, giving that feeling of enormous rushing of air. With a full-face mask, when you open your mouth, no air escapes, hence no sensation of movement. It also means no loss of pressure so the air-source does not have to try and compensate and is therefore not any noisier
