  • First CPAP Mask Designed for Women

ResMed have a new version of their popular Swift mask, the Swift LT "for Her".

Amongst other unique features (or at least, uniquely worded) one that has been discussed here on the forums:

Innovative headgear design: Adjustable backstrap can be worn over or under the hair to accommodate a wide range of hair styles in a soft, feminine print and light blue color.
What do you reckon, good move by ResMed?

They're not doing it in PINK?

Oh, I can just see a pink one being delivered by mistake and getting ribbed for it for months!

May be a good move for the manufacturer, but I think not really required.

      Men!!

Maybe we can let the women decide if it's a good idea and/or needed and/or nice of Resmed to think of them!

Darn, I just started my therapy yesterday and was given the Swift LT but it says nothing about being for a woman on the pkg. Maybe it's not in Canada yet. I'm having trouble with the mask. I kept waking up as my mouth would pop open, does that mean that I didn't have it sealed properly? I finally took it off around 4 A.m. as I had to work and wanted a couple of hours sleep. Will try again tonight.

Definitely available in Canada. I have it to try for a couple of weeks but have to admit on the demo she gave me in the office today I freaked out a bit. I went to the movies tonight and my mind kept straying to worrying about sleeping with it. Will report back. Now going to the site to see what people have to say about coping with the nasal pillows. It just felt really strong!

The trick with the nasal pillows seems to be getting a good seal. Makes all the difference. My second night was much better but haven't mastered it completely yet. I sleep on my side and sometimes have trouble getting a good seal, but did sleep most of the night this time. Good luck with yours Janice.

dont know how i'd know if i had a good seal or not. chickened out of using last night but practised with it earlier today and feel ok about giving it a go tonight. i did notice the cold nose phenomenon so will think about that one.

                  swift pillows for her!!

I'm using the nasal pillows and doing okay but be careful with putting the pillows back in..I put them in backwards and had trouble for several nights not getting a good seal.. kept wondering why my eyeballs were getting a big blowout!!!If you're a mouth breather-not good for you man or woman!!..Mostly my nose hurt for a few days..Think I have a permanent pillow impression on my nose holes!!!Does get better though!Stick with it!!

Thanks all. I got brave and slept all night with the Swift LT. The people at the DME did the snapping things together for me so I think the pillows are right way up. Not sure I have the headgear quite right. I've looked at the pictures but am a bit spatially challenged!

Anyway, I didn't feel any obvious leaks when putting my fingers near my nostrils other than where the vents were. I was surprised that when I woke in the night I wasn't as conscious of the air blowing in as I had been with the nasal mask. That makes no sense. I could tell the vents were venting and pulling the pillows out I could tell a great deal of air was rushing in so that was surprising.

I'm wondering about taking both masks to the sleep study on Wednesday and asking about the possibility of using both masks at different times to assess the efficacy of each but don't know if that's asking too much.

Will use it again tonight anyway. Told the clinic I wanted a full week with this mask before I would do my study. Charging ahead and keeping it real! Any more tips?

Good for you Janice. With the headgear I had trouble at first too and then looked at the pamphlet that came with it. It said to hold the pillows to your nose first and then adjust the headgear ( it is on a hinge so you can adjust it to whatever angle feels best) and then pull the straps over your head with the clip on top. Also the pillows have little bumps on one side and the headgear has one bump on one side so just make sure that all the bumps are on the same side and then you will know that the pillows are on the right way.

                        Keeping pillows and mask on!!

This isn't just for women but it is a women's helpful advice..I wear the LT pillows for women and the head straps would slide off the front of my head at night sometimes..Sooo..I started using a hair clippy to clip the back strap to my head..That and a bit of strap adjustment has helped, hope it may help others!!!
