  • Wind chill factor...

I'm having a bit of bother and wondered if anyone out there has had the same and found a solution.

I have finally found a mask which does the job, it's a breeze nazel mask and now I've learned to keep my mouth shut (most of the time) it isn't half as bad as the other masks I've used - which all leaked at an unprecidented rate.

The problem is the air temperature, my bedroom gets a bit cold in the night (no gas central heating) and the air charge is making my nose so cold it goes numb! I got a heated humidifier, which I hoped would cure this problem but I still get a cold nose AND I now have the flooding problem you get with these things - even though my tubes are lagged! So for one reason or another, I'm still waking up four or five times a night.

I thought of asking the NHS to send me to a warmer country for the winter - purely on health grounds of course but I think they may not appreciate my humour!

    Any advice?

Two members here have bought a Heated Tube from SleepZone in Australia. This keeps the air warm all the way to the mask, avoiding rainout and keeping your nose at the correct temperature.

For the time being, you will have to source them from Australia though you can expect them to be available on EU-PAP soon too.

      OMG, that's a bit steep - I'm a poor tight Yorkshireman.

Any idea how long before they are available over here?

When they are CE approved, hopefully within a month.

As one of the afore mentioned members who has bought a heated tube, I am also a yorkshire man but the expenditure of the 'brass' was well worth it. I dont see them being much cheaper from James as Intus has to make their profit as well - but he might prove me wrong

I run my tube under my pillow - don't know if that helps, but if you have enough slack, might be an idea... Providing you're not crushing it!

James did me a special deal on a really nice blue heated hose - Whataguy!

I have to say it is a cracking piece of kit. I'm really chuffed with the outcome and all the problems associated with water and cold air have been solved. I just wish I'd invented it!

I really had all but given up on a good nights sleep but this addition has transformed the CPAP into something I no longer dread.

Cheers for all the advice and many thanks to James @ Intus

You're welcome. It's great indeed but we'll have to wait a bit longer until it's all certified and ready for the E.U. market. The product is, just the paperwork isn't. It may even be late this year but we'll let everyone know asap.

                      Foggy, foggy dew

The last couple of nights the light film of condensation in my mask had turned to dew, to heavy due and sure as shooting, was about to turn to rain-out. What with that and renewed excitement about heated hoses, I broke mine out last night and ......

Balmy nights, tropical lushness - all that were missing were the sounds and smells! Endless lungsful of warm, moist air - the easiest breathing in the world, right here in my bedroom in autumnal England! Memories of a well spent youth and from a world-roaming career came flooding back - oh! those tropical nights, those beautiful people. We were young(er)!

And now - courtesy of age, weight, OSA and Down Under Don - I can look forward to dreaming these winter nights away, lost in steamy memories.

Why wait till January? Using a heated hose is for doing now, I see that already - like going barefoot earlier in the Spring. The comfort of breating warm, moist air is wonderful - and it also seems to have nasal/sinus clearing abilities, to boot!

On a practical level, Les and Smudger, where do you switch yours off? at the wall or by pulling the connector. I didn't think to switch mine off when I went walkabout at 3 a.m. so I got some very steamy breaths when I switched the APAP back on! A conveniently located switch seems to be required.

For anyone with rain-out, cold air, discomfort problems with your PAP therapy, you just gotta get one of these heated hoses on your Santa List!

                        Hi Tigers Fan
It certainly makes all the differencev doesn't it? I pull out the connector when I get up in the morning, being at the bottom of the tube it is conveniently placed for me. I agree a switch would help but it is not too much of a problem. I leave the transformer switched on all the time and it doesn't seem to overheat

Green, guys, remember it's cool to be green so switch it off at the wall!

Maybe Don can put an airflow detector in the tube which turns off the heating when the PAP stops.

                            Hi James
It may be cool to be green, but as the wall socket is behind the bed head I would be far from cool if I had to drag the bed about every time I want to switch it on or off

                              Fair point!

At 12V and 1 Amp it's not burning up the remaining world stock of fossile fuels in a hurry either so we'll let you get away with it, even if you didn't switch it off at all
