  • Mirage Liberty Face CPAP Mask

    Hi guys,

It's been a while so I thought I would drop on and ask a question.

I went to the hospital a few weeks back and the nurse said that she is really pleased with my results over the last 3 months or so. She mentioned that if I was happy I would not have to go back untill February which is great because I hate the drive down to the hospital.

    Anyhows...

I have been having a few problems with the mask Im using. It's the comfortfull 2 mask I think, I have both a large and medium so I can vary as needed to stop the pains in the bridge of my nose. However, over the last few weeks I have noticed more and more that I am knocking it off and nudging it creating leaks. Obviously this is waking me up, I'm getting angry with it and eventually ripping it off my head. I think if I keep it up not only will I ruin my sleep, my girlfriend might actually kill where I lay.

So I have been looking at the above mask and wondered if anyone has any experience of using one? I could really do with some pointers on this as I would like to order a new mask today.

    Cheers as always.

Are you knocking and nudging it yourself, with your hands, or is it that the mask is digging into your pillow and so on?

I think to be honest its a combination of everything.

I've been loosing a bit of wait over the last few weeks which might be weakening the seal on my face aswell. however i can't use the smaller mask to often as it puts far too much pressure on the bridge of my nose. Thats kind of why I was thinking of the nazal pillows angle.

With that Liberty mask, there isn't much middle ground, it's either Large or Small.

The Pillow part sounds like will give you a benefit over the ComfortFull and it does mean less bulk to interfere with your rolling around, digging into the pillow etc. If pressure points remain, you can consider a special pillow like this but hopefully the size difference will sort it out for you.

For what reason do you need a full face mask though? Would one with just nasal pillows not work for you? With those you loose even more bulk to bother you during the night.

And of course, well done on the weightloss. That will positively impact your OSA and associated issues.

The full face thing is due to my hideous habbit of replicating the face of a Hippo yawning while I sleep.

Apparently I breathe through my mouth and nose while I sleep. (Mind you I'm taking this on good faith from the girlfriend, but the pools Of dribble I build up through the night kind of make me think it's right.)

Still I think it might be worth a punt. If I've got to live with this for ever, at the age of 25, the money isn't an issue to me I just want the best thing for me.

            That explains

A chin strap could be worth a try so you force yourself to keep breathing through the nose, allowing a nasal only mask but if this Liberty works out, who wants another strap?

Anyway, whichever road you go down, let us know how you like that mask.

I've got the Liberty. I find it very difficult to maintain a seal around the mouth. When it works it's good. You may find it great though, many do.

If you need a full face mask I'd suggest trying the Liberty, Hybrid and the Quattro. The Quattro is far more adjustable than the Comfortfull.

The Hybrid's built in chin cup could work well for you.

I just had a fortnight with the liberty and just couldn't get it to seal. Apparently I was averaging 186 minutes leakage a night, so it just didn't fit me. Also, I found the thing very noisy - to the extent that I couldn't get to sleep.

I've just moved on to a breeze nasal mask and while I found it a bit different getting used to breathing through my nose 100% of the time, I think it's coming along - treouble is, I've just got a dreaded head cold so I can see my full faced F&P mask getting used again (good but leaks a lot!).

I was surprised that the hospital was not going to re-use the liberty - I thought they could sterilise them but no, it's for the bin.. Seems a waste!

Liberty is a lovely looking mask and if my PCT wasn't so good, I'd have definatley have bought one - to find it didn't suit me. Thank goodness for the National Health!

As I've lost just a little weight over the last 9 weeks, my mask no longer fits too well. I'm having to adjust it every few days. I've now developed a pressure sore on the bridge of my nose which part from being unsightly, is uncomfortable at night.

Does anyone have an easy solution for it?

As my weight loss is going to carry on for approximately two years then changing masks is not an economic way to go.

hi i am a new member just been looking through all the threads and came across your problem with sores,i am having all sorts of problems with mask,i have only ever tried one mask just covers the nose i think it is respironics this is the mask i did my sleep over at papworth with after a couple of uses i had really bad sores on my nose bridge and my fore head i have adjusted the straps to try to make it more comfortable it is better but i have to use two strips of fabric plasters to stop it hurting,i am hoping to discuss this on my next visit,i would like to try a full mask also as my mouth drops open when i sleep at the moment i am using a chin strap i dont like the extra straps (more discomfort)i also have problems with swallowing air and waking up like a beachball hope its all worth it paul
