  • Nasal mask leakage - how much is normal?

    Hello,
I use a ResMed Air fit N301 Quiet Air cushion mask with a nasal pillow. I've tried other masks, including full face but the nasal type is the only one I feel comfortable with. But my mask seems to leak quite a lot of air through the nose section. In response, I tighten the side straps. Trouble is, I have to tighten them so much my nose hurts and I wake up with sore nostrils. How much leakage is considered normal or acceptable and how tight should the side straps be to reduce leakage?

    Good Morning,

    Thank you for your post.

Can I check a couple of things
    1. If you breathe through your nose only then you can use a nasal mask. If you breathe through your nose and mouth (ie if you snore) then you need a full face mask. Do you have the right mask type for how you breathe?

    2. Sizing - Have you used a sizing guide to ensure you are using the right size cushion/pillow for your face?

    3. Fitting video - Have you watched a fitting video for your mask online to ensure you are putting the mask on and adjusting it correctly?

    4. How many nights have you used the mask for?

If you can back to me on the above I will see how I can help you.

    Kelly
