  • New User Question: Sore throat?

I am 5 days into my F20 and Redmed from the NHS. Calling them for simple questions doesnt work , so am pleased about finding a forum :-)

My question, I wake up with a through or tonsils area feeling as if it is "open" and not relaxed. Is it normal to experience this ? It is hard to explain , but I feel like Im bruised inside and part way to a gag reflex through the day, if that makes sense?

Im not stopping , as I am scared about the stats given and the machine is working in reducing those. I miss snuggling into my pillow, but - so be it

    Good Afternoon,

    Thank you for your post.

Can I kindly ask if you have a humidifier attached and if not, do you feel the flow of cold air pressure from your machine to your mask may be the reason behind your tonsil area feeling as if it is open and not relaxed? If so a humidifier may help. This warms and moistens the air.

Can you see on your machine whether you get a good mask fit and whether there is any leakage?

The aim of the CPAP machine is to provide air pressure to keep your airway open and to stop it closing during the night.

The target AHi (sleep apnoea events per hour) score with a CPAP machine is 5 or under.

5 days is early stages of CPAP therapy and it does take a little while to get used to using the equipment and adjusting your sleeping position.

Please come back to me on the humidifier and mask fit / leakage question and I will see what I can advise

You can always email me or one of the other customer service team at Intus Healthcare at [email protected] or call us on 0800 024 8050. We are open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and are happy to help with any question questions or assistance.

Hi , I do have a humidifier attached, with a heating pipe, supplied by the NHS and used nightly , in the week I have been using it

I have green faces for fit and leakeage and the report says zero leaks in litres per hour .

My AHI is sub 5, currently in the 3 space .

I think you are right - normally I would hold off on comments on the device for longer, 2 weeks for new cars and resmed devices seems wise In this case, I searched and found here sooner than my usual only as I have found on forums people evangalise an immediate improvement, however I find myself more tired and aware of an "open throat" when doing normal activity.

Ive changed the pressure on the Redmed to Normal instead of Soft and hope that will help . I am set to 4-15 on the "push" and have EPR on. I think, after watching some youtube videos I could drop the 15 to 14 etc and test, but - I dont want to do that until after I become a firm, regular user.

        Good Morning,

        Thank you for your email.

It sounds like you have a good mask fit, and zero leaks. You are well within the target AHI score of 5 or under which is great to see.

I would give the equipment a chance to settle down and for you to adjust to sleeping whilst using it.

Please do not change the pressure settings on the machine that the NHS set up for you. The upper pressure is just the highest the machine will go. It will not go up to 15cmh20 unless you need this pressure or you have big air leakage.

Let me know how you get on over the next 2 weeks.

        Kelly
