  • How long should I expect a mask to last

I have been using my Resmed Mirage Swift II nasal pillows now for two months and wondered just how long they should last. I do have a spare new mask.

As I shall be leaving NZ in around 6 weeks to sail to more remote places I am now thinking I should perhaps take a further additional mask as it will be around October/November before I return to civilisation again in Australia.

What life are others getting out of their pillows?

Additionally, I know I am in NZ but post is exceptionally good to the UK and vice versa, is there anyone out there wanting to swap new Swift II large or small nasal pillows for medium?
    Cheers Retsyo

    Hi Retsyo
Your looking at between 6 to 12 months, depending on how well you do the cleaning.

Thanks Puffin for that info. I take great care to wash mine each day in warm water with a drop of Johnson's baby shampoo, rinse it and then let it dry out of the sun.

Will not bother to purchase another mask until I get to Oz where Resmed products are made - I wonder if they have a seconds shop?

        Hi,
I have been using my resmed nasal pillows for a year now.
They are not showing any signs of wear and tear.
How will I know when they need replacing?
        Do they fail physically?
I monitor my results each night and they seem okay.
        Thanks
        Chris

Also keep the mask out of direct sunlight. UV light will brake down the silicon quicker. A dark well ventilated area is better.

Hi Chris So good to know you are getting a long life from your pillows. What cleaning programme do you use?

I have been taking my pillows part each morning and washing them. Found when I was not so dilligent about the cleaning I suffered terrible nasal problems.
            Cheers Retsyo

              Hi,
I try to clean them daily but sometimes...
I'm sure you know how it goes.
I wash them with simple unscented soap and air dry them.
              nothing more than that really.
              Regards
              Chris

What a Sleep Clinic Told Me

                Hi retsyo

Papworth sleep clinic allow two masks per patient per year - seems to be normal

Resmed offer spares list and prices, in UK next day delivery if you order before noon (excellent as Mr Burns would say!)

Not sure how fast they would deliver to New Zealand but check with them - I found them very helpful.

THe other advice already posted to your thread is sound - it depends on how you look after your gear and to some extent how rough you are while asleep. Having said that since CPAP my previous disturbed sleep patterns and leaping through sheets and kicking my better half have all stopped for me WOW peace at last!

                Hope this helps - Cheers
