Ultra Mirage Mask ResMed S8 Escape-First Night

I was worried all night about the hose falling out of the bed and dragging the mask around, as it did the first night, so spent the night clutching it!

I just bought a hose cosy(tube wrap, call it what you like...) (fleecy tube to put the hose in) and whilst I haven't noticed any difference in CPAP flow, moisture etc, it stops the hose from sliding off the bed covers!!!

leakage in mask

Recently diagnosed with Sleep Apnoea and this is the first time I've used a CPAP machine, supplied by NHS. The mask (a nose mask) seems to leak profusely around the elbow and blew air across my face all night. I've read other threads on this, but do all these masks leak or has anyone used this mask with no leaks? Also, the nurse said I had to pull the straps very tight to the face, but it kept waking me up as one side if the mask (always the same side) was cutting into my face. Am I doing something wrong or have others found this discomfort a problem? I'm just hoping that it will get better and would welcome any advice on how to use the mask properly. Many thanks.

fix leakage with plumbers tape. apply tape till they fit tight this has worked for me for the last two years happy sleeping

I'm a little disappointed as many people say they felt great after their first night and I've had two nights with it now and cannot say there is a vast improvement. I suppose once I get the mask and settings right I shall feel a lot better.

I also started with CPAP last Wednesday, the first two nights i had a gel nose mask but ended up with a sore on the bridge of my nose and red marks on my face so on Friday I went back and got the Mirage II nasal pillow mask. I am finding it much easier to tolerate as it doesnt cover much of my face, but i have not noticed any improvement in my energy levels at all, some days i feel worse than before and am still needing a sleep in the afternoons. Even thought the second mask is much better I am still being woken up by it two or 3 times a night. I am still hoping for the miracle rise in energy that lots seem to have, has anyone else find it takes a week or more to notice the difference, at the moment i am feeling very dissapointed.

Nose head club

Hi all
I have been using the remstar nose mask for about 9 month,
I have asked for advice at the clinic about the tube thing that fits
up your nose , are they any good? do they allow you to sleep on your
side & are they ok with low pressure?
My clinic says they only allow the use of them in extreme cases (last resorts).
Any one got any advice.

Definitely good, but nasal cushion masks like you have are good too.

That's one of their main benefits. There's very little material sticking out to the sides of the nose so nothing to interfere with your pillow.

Yes, probably the lower the easier.

My clinic says they only allow the use of them in extreme cases (last resorts).

Because they are more expensive for them to buy in. You can readily buy them yourself. Just search for "Fisher & Paykel Opus 482" or "Respironics Optilife" etc.
