  • Correct mask for S8 Autoset Spirit II

Further to my "Just arrived" post.
I checked with Resmed this morning that I had set the S8 for the correct mask. I had set it for a Resmed swift mask as it was a nasal pillow like my Puritan Bennett breeze nasal pillow mask. I was told by a very pleasant and helpful person that I should have it set for a Resmed mirage.
I was also told that whereas any mask can be fitted to a constant pressure CPAP the Autoset can only be used with their own masks plus certain others which had been tested with the machine. Mine had been approved and would be recognised by the machine when set to Mirage.
I am sure the sleep centres know this but if anyone is buying their own S8 make sure your mask is approved.

    Best regards
    Andy

I can't help but think that is total nonsense (by ResMed, not you Andy). Like ink cartridges and printers, sounds to me like tying people in out of corporate greed.

If the mask physically connects, what difference will a machine setting make to how the air is pumped to the mask?!

Glad I have a Respironics one without mask restrictions!

      Fair comment Joe.
If I have to contact customer support again I will see if I can get a scientific reasoned explaination.
      Best regards

I only had to read Bill Bolton's reply to be satisfied. He knows everything and I know him from the various other forums.

Good to know there is in fact an 'all mask' setting, makes it a much fairer product than it seemed!

I have the resmed activa nasal mask and that is set to "standard" in the settings. I had to use an unbranded mask in hospital when my own mask was damaged and the technician told me that the standard setting works with most masks, as the machine is will eventually "calibrate" itself to what ever you fit on the front. It just takes longer to sort out if it does not have a built in setting.

The nice ladies at Resmed in Oxford confirmed this when I went to collect a new mask.
