  • Jet stream vent hole

Started using a Puritan Bennett Breeze nasal pillow last night which was issued by the NHS.
I found it very comfortable and was able to sleep on my back and both sides without leakage or discomfort. It seems a little flimsy but time will tell if its up to the job.
One strange feature is the speed at which the vent hole is continually venting. If it contacts my hand or pillow its quite loud. I'm afraid to sleep facing my Wife in case it has her eye out:.
I spoke to the sleep clinic this morning and they tested another mask they had ready for issue. They phoned me back and said that one was very strong as well. They also confirmed it was suitablefor a S8 Autoset Spirit2 which is on its way.
Do any members have this model and find its like having concorde on your nose?

    Best regards
    Andy

Dont have that model - have a comfort full respironics - But yes the vent on that is like a jet exhaust and it can be a bit noisy - i think someone mentioned a possible solution - on another post.

I tried to change the direction of airflow from the vent on my mask. Used tape to form a cowl. It did not work! Too noisy.

So in the last few days I have had the idea of a bit of thin fleece either used to redirect the air flow or loosely cover the vent acting as a baffle. Soft fluffy material would absorb sound and diffuse air flow. Well thats the idea. Got to try it first, I would not completely cover vents, but just enough to help deaden the jet stream.

All the air that goes in must come out. If the exhaust is smaller than the hose, a jet stream of sorts is the result. F&P in particular mention in their product literature that they designed their masks with exhalation ports that bear bed partners in mind in terms of direction and noise.

I guess it differs quite a lot per mask.

            One thought..

Me and the misses live in a noisy area - and in the summer - if we have the windows open we can't sleep for the noise (it's a short cut for clubbers).

As such we ended up using a fan - this provides a constant noise - which we now have on all the time (the air flow even in the winter is nice).

The point of all this - is that the fan noise is constant (you can buy sound conditioners to do the samething). The consistancy of the noise cancels out other less regular ones - it takes a few nights to get used to it. But it might be worth trying something like that at a pinch.

I don't really have a problem with noise, just the flow. If I am sleeping on my side, the flow sometimes deflects off the pillows into my eye. I have often been spotted sleeping with my eyes open. When this happens I have problems with dry itchy eyes. Hence diffusing the flow. The vent on my mask is between the eyes.
