  • Is this right?! Please advise.

Hi All! I'm Willow and I'm new to this place, I was only diagnosed yesterday! The doc said I have OSA and MSA and Hypopnoea, with about 80 "incidents" an hour - sounds kind of scary! Last night I slept with my CPAP for the first time (a Philips Respironics Auto, with the full face mask). I woke a few times in the night and realised that my breathing was still very shallow. I also noticed that air was coming out of where the little black flap comes out, so the pressure didn't feel very strong. Is this right? The flap always stays up, but air still comes out - the flap looks flat and fine but I'm worried because I still feel exhausted today. I'm still young and otherwise in good shape, but as this thing is getting worse I'm worried. Please Advise!
    Thanks:

    Hi Willow,
    Welcome to the site.
I am sure your cpap is workign fine, the air should be escaping from the vent otherwise you would be rebreathing the same air all the time and that certainly is not good for you.
To start your therapy the clinic usually start it low and then work up to the optimum pressure for your personal needs. We are all different.
You said you woke up a couple of times but I wonder how many times you normally wake up?
Also, dont expect miracles on day one, you will get there.
I am surprised that you did so well for a first night and you are to be congratulated on that. You are obvoiusly doing something right so stick with it and you will see the benefits in a little while.
Any big problems or concerns you have ring your sleep centre and if they are not open leave a message and also ask on here.
I wish you all the best.
    Regards
    Lorraine

Probably, your clinic left your APAP set a 4 and 20 cm. $cm for when you are not having an event and anythuing up to 20 when you are - the machine does it all for you. 4cm is like a very gentle zephyr.
