  • Insisting on factory sealed replacements

Anyone else get sent/offered spares from their clinic that are not sealed and having to refuse them?

The clinics I have been connected to often remove kit from packets to look at it themselves and to show patients that visit, only to then put it in an envelope and post it to another patient.

I am not happy to accept some difficult to clean parts that have been handled and tell them so. Sometimes this leads to a delay in them sending another factory sealed replacement and one gets tension in a relationship where you really want to be able to get along with them.

    Am I being too fiussy?

I recently got given a new mask by my clinic. It was in a sealed bag, but it was opened to try it for size. As it was OK, I brought it home to use. I wonder what they would have done with it, if it had been the wrong size?

Not nice though it may sound, I don't see an actual problem. Most parts can be cleaned and sterilised, and if opened to see if they fit then not a big issue surely.

At £100 or more for a mask, I know if I bought one and didn't get on with it I'd sell it on, and someone would buy it. If I put my apap up for sale it would sell.

I agree, but it isn't always acceptable, especially as confidence in the kit is a big thing for us. In one case I was handed a machine I didn't check, drove home (an hour and a half), only to discover its state was as if parked next to a frying pan using lard to cook a full breakfast. In another a filter, was evidently handled by someone that had picked up something on their thumb that had then dried. Picking it off it broke into a mini cloud of dust, washing it left a stain - as I didn't know what it was I didn't want to attempt to get to sleep thinking about it so ditched it.

I agree, but when you are buying second-hand you would only buy what you are happy to clean and I personally wouldn't buy something that hadn't been looked after. In one case I was handed a machine I didn't check there and then (never again!), drove home (an hour and a half), only to discover its state was as if parked next to a frying pan using lard to cook a full breakfast. In another a filter sent to me in the post, was evidently handled by someone that had picked up something on their thumb that had then dried on the foam. Picking it off it broke into a mini cloud of dust, washing it left a stain - as I didn't know what it was I didn't want to attempt to get to sleep thinking about it so sent it back.
          Fussy so-and-so that's me.
