  • Full face mask problems

I have been given a full face mask, after 5 years of nasal mask, as I have experienced "mouth breathing". Unfortunately, this has brought up another problem. When I wake up, after a good night's sleep, it feel like my mouth is full of cotton wool, and my tongue is as big as my mouth. My mouth is also very dry, which seems to last for up to 4 hours after waking. Anyone else had this?

    Dehydration.

Make sure you are not dehydrated when you go to bed. Have a drink by the bed so you can have a mouthful if you wake up, if you haven't already got a humidifier for the machine, get one.

Also, add some Biotene to your bedside cabinet/locker.

Thanks folks, thought it might be something like dehydration. Will soon be getting a new machine, as mine sounds like it's on its last legs, but cannot have it yet as have to have radioactive iodine treatment for thyroid cancer, and everything I touch during the four days treatment becomes radioactive, and has to be left behind. The current machine will then be safely disposed of, and I can then use my new one. Might ask about a humidifier when I get the new one.

          new machine, new mask

If you have been used to using a nasal mask then see if you can try the Liberty Mirage; its like a combined nasal and mouth mask. Less claustrophobic then other full face types.

Well, I tried, but I have had to revert to my nasal mask. I am shortly to go into hospital for radioactive iodine treatment for my cancer, where everything in the room gets radioactive, so my CPAP machine will be destroyed when I come out, and I will get a new one (yippee). My current one is 5 years old and worn out, with a very noisy bearing sound coming from inside, so needs changing anyway. Perhaps when I get the new one I will be able to negotiate a better mask arrangement.
