  • Masks and high pressure

    Hi Folks
I haven't posted here for a long time. I've been using CPAP and now a Nippy machine for about 2 years.

I've started getting very tired again. My girlfriend has noticed that I'm snoring again and I'm back to waking up feeling like I haven't been to sleep.

I also have Restless Leg Syndrome and that doesn't help things.

My big problem is the amount of pressure I am having to use. I had to switch to a Nippy as the sleep studies were showing I was still having apneas at the limits of the CPAP machine. This has continued and I am now at 30 cmH2O for inhale and 14 for exhale.

I used to be a scuba instructor so breathing off compressed air is no issue for me and I can sleep easily. I just feel that the masks are leaking due to this massive pressure which is possibly influencing the decision to keep upping the pressure. Kind of a vicious cirlce.

I'm waiting to get back into Papworth for yet another study.

Does anyone else have experience at these pressures? Or know of masks for really high pressure? I have more masks than I know what to do with, all sorts of designs. The latest one is the Fisher and Paykel Forma. It's a lovely comfortable mask but I have to have it on so tight. I wake up with a swollen face (I'm not the best looking when I go to bed).

Any help would be appreciated as I'm starting to loose my remaining sanity.
