Noisy masks

I have a FlexiFit 432 full face mask with a water tank to supply moist air from my CPAP machine. I have recently renewed the rubber and the plastic parts along with a new pipe as they were worn out- the rubber part goes first due to moisture retention.

My problem is that it palys tunes of various sorts during the night. If I tighten the mask too much it causes restrictions around my neck. If I dont have it tight enough moisture builds up and gives me quite a tuneful noise which wakes me and annoys my wife no end.

Any ways to get a better seal and avoid my musical mask?

If this is a new problem since you replaced the hovercraft skirt, there is a good chance that the hovercraft skirt isn't properly seated onto the plastic of the mask. I used to have that problem a lot with the F&P mask; usually it is the bit at the top of the nose.

Humidifier

Hi,
Not sure why you should get moisture build up more if your mask is tight. But I'd suggest reducing your humidifier setting. Most people over-humidify. I live in a dry climate and even as such...I only use zero=heat and just pass-over humidity. Always have a clear nose and no humidity build-up.

Squeaky mask

I replaced the worn parts (rubber insert, plastic skirt and pipe) as the mask was squeaking then. The replacement has only improved a little.

The top of the rubber insert is the weakest as it is very thin there and it cracks, absorbs moisture and gets quickly worse. Its this part that has to be replaced most frequently.

I try to make sure that the plastic skirt and the rubber part are fitted in the rigid clear plastic mask firmly and carefully. However, overnight the moisture builds up and the parts move and everything becomes musical!

I am looking for recommendations for CPAP masks that are relatively quiet. If my mask slips, my mask hisses and it bothers my wife. My challenge is I sleep on my stomach so when I shift around in my sleep, my mask doesn't always stay on. Any advice would be appreciated.

There are two types of noise a mask will make; when it is operating normally, and when it slips/leaks.

The first kind of noise depends on the mask, but from your description you don't seem to have a problem with the mask being noisy when it is sitting properly.

The second type is associated with leaks, and the seal of the mask presumably making farting noises against your face. Unfortunately this just depends on how well the mask fits, not on the mask itself. The occasional leak is something you will have to put up with.

If your wife complains about the occasional leak problem with the mask, offer to stop wearing it...of course, that would mean she would have to put up with the snoring and apnoeas again... The occasional leak is the much better option for both of you.

Noise stopped

Many thanks for advice- I reduced humidity and this really stopped all the noise. Much quietter tho' not quite as moist asI would like.

Dunno about anyone else but I find the fleece hose cover I use dampens the noise considerably.
