  • Full-face mask question

Are full-face masks designed to shut your nose off when they are being worn.
My FX completely shuts off my nose whilst the Forma nearly shuts it. Its only my old, repaired, ZZZ/ Wizard which keeps my nose fully open.
As I have been having nose problems lately I'm going back onto the ZZZ to see if it helps

I ken what you mean. This is why I'm a sleeping mouth breather, I'm sure. Careful mask positioning alleviates it for me - but then I turn over and all is undone.

The left side of my nose is completely blocked off at present.
I have tried all the normal things and I am now in the middle of a course of 4weeks of nasal sprays before I can be referred to a ENT.
I am going to try my old ZZZ as it does not put pressure on the side of my nose and I have ordered a replacement for it as it its held together with heat shrink tubing.
Lets see if it helps tonight.

Do you mean it physically shuts off the nose such as by pinching it or a chamber, or do you mean the air pressure and angle of it closes the nostrils.

I have noticed that a number of both full face and even nasal masks have the tendency to close my nostrils (due to the position of the entry port I think) so I simply can't use them. If the FX is like that then I shan't buy one and will wait until SATAday to try out whatever is available on the trade stands.

For me with a Q FX - and a Quattro, come to that - it doesn't close my nose or pinch it - just the merest touch feels as if it has restricted the air flow and it feels blocked. If I think about it, I can breathe through my nose but when relaxed, my mouth opens.

Good plan to wait for SATAday!

To answer that question directly, no, they are not designed to do that. However some masks will do that with some users because of the combination of mask shape and facial shape.

Even with a full face mask, it is preferable to breathe through the nose, and have the mouth as a backup option, so none would deliberately close off the nose. That would just be a slight issue with how the mask fits you.

I have always thought that the ZZZ/Wizard mask seems more powerful if a mask can do that.
I now realise that of the 3 masks I use its the only one which completely leaves my nose open. I must sense the airflow through my nose or I could if one side was not blocked up.
I will carry on using my ZZZ for a few days to see if it helps the nasal problem.

I know what you mean with the fx, back off the top strap so it sits lightly on the nose and it alleviates the problem for me. I keep the lower strap tight which holds it in place well.
