  • Quattro fx mask leakage

Hi there, I am new to this forum as I have recently been diagnosed with sleep apnoea which I thought was a good thing because I knew I couldn't carry on the way I was going. Since starting cpap therapy I have noticed the difference in myself regarding tiredness , but now I have this ongoing problem with my mask leaking so much so I am now getting acid in my throat, have tried liners they work most times, but the last few nights leakage has been quite bad tried tightening the straps but end up with really sore face & uncomfortable with acid, can anyone help me with if they have had similar problems & how they overcame the problem

I don't use a full face mask, so haven't used this one, but just tightening the straps is often not the best way to deal with leaks; it just deforms the seal and can make the leaks worse. Exxentially, you want the straps as loose as possible whilst still making a seal.

Have a look on Youtube, searching for "Quatro FX mask". there are a few videos guides there to help you get it fitted better

        Hi Rowanlass,

Leaking masks is a problem that every hosehead (CPAP user) comes up against sooner or later. The noise-level is generally related to the pressure being applied.

Tightening the straps is not a solution. If you have Remzzz Face-Mask Liners try using two or three, or, maybe three or four, as a pad. Keep the layers in position with a little piece of Micropore, attaching it to the mask close to the bottom of the forehead adjustment joint.

Buy from your pharmacy Isopel barrier-cream (comes in a tube) and smear it generously around your nose, mouth, forehead and chin. Do this last thing before putting on your mask.

Together the liners and the barrier-cream make an effective 'gasket' that will reduce the leaks substantially.

        I hope this helps.

        Richard

First off - look at the "how to fit a Quattro FX mask" videos.

If the mask leaks take it off and start over - make sure you do 'the roll' at the right place on your nose. The right place is the place individual to you on your nose that gives a comfortable and leak-free seal.

Adjust the straps till the mask seals and floats on the air cushion.

These masks are pretty much impossible to make leak if you do the roll on the right place and don't over-tighten the straps.

If you get a leak, they are pretty much impossible to re-seal without taking the mask off first.

Stay calm and relaxed at all times!

              Nose Cushion

Hope2Sleep have gel nose cushions which make wearing the mask more comfortable. I also use liners and find this stops the problem of leaks. I hope this helps.

Yes, had a look at the you tubes videos regarding masks last night before I went to sleep, had slightly better night but still a little leakage but not as bad as I followed the tips on the video, think that is my problem though I tend to get very uptight when it leaks & It makes the situation worse coz I get my self ratty because I feel I am not doing it right, if you know what I mean

My mistake, Moira, try Siopel from Lloyds Pharmacy.

Maybe they have something for Dyslexia, too, eh?

                            Hi Richard,

Nah you are not as bad as that, simple misspelling that is all, happens to all of us at one stage , but will see if they had coloured lens specs if you like lol, did ask at Boots they were very helpful, have ordered an barrier cream they suggested at the pharmacy , should received it today, but I did try just the pad of liners like you suggested last night & boy what a difference the pad made, actually slept through to 4am got up to go toilet came back fell over & that was me to about 6am then it started to whistle through vent & annoy me so switched off the machine, but that is the longest I've slept since I went to Cardiff 2 wks ago

                            Many thanks for your advice,

                            Moira
