  • CPAP PRO "no mask" ?

I am a newbie, haven't ordered a machine yet. Has anyone tried the CPAP PRO at nomask.com? It sounds too good to be true, with no head gear. Thank you. Any suggestions on machines/masks is appreciated. I know my Dr. will suggest one, but I value ya'll's opinions. Tori

I think the quote in their faq says how respectable a company they are:

"With severe skin irritation, annoying leakage and the need to constantly tighten straps, it is almost impossible for the patient to reach essential "REM" sleep with conventional masks."

Almost impossible? how come the majority of CPAP users do manage it then! That quote alone tells me they aren't a reputable company, and are probably selling uncertified equipment through scare tactics.

If it is reputable equipment, I am sure James and co. will be looking into it, and if it is, will start spreading the word like they did with the sleepweaver

As a matter of fact, we're just waiting for CE to come through and we'll have those "No Masks" in. They have been going for years, if they weren't reputable, BBB would have put them out of business. But they have many repeat customers and it's finally almost ready for use in Europe.

The not reaching REM thing may have been slightly overzealous, but you can find such statements in any manufacturer's brochure.

As with all masks, this one won't suit 100% of people. Some will hate it, a lot of people will love it. Until the day the perfect mask comes (never) we'll need as much choice as we can to increase the chance there is one available that suits your very individual you.

So all in all, we do rate it, as yet another great tool in the box. Plenty of happy users out there so it has got to work here too.

I'm just a cynical old so and so...

I thought after I had finished typing...the real test is whether they would ship to the UK (without the CE certification) ... if they did, they aren't reputable!

But, As I said, as it is worth looking at, James is on the ball and looking!

          thank you

thank you for your reply, my reason for looking at this particular brand is: #1 I have rosacea, and I am concerned what a mask/straps would do to the skin on my face, as it is fragile. #2 I have to wear a bite block because I grind my teeth at night, and the 'no mask' kinda has a bite block as part of it. So, these are the reasons I am interested in this. Thank you.

You are quaint, Fredxx! No good without a kite mark! Not British, what!

I agree the need for safety standards, but let's have international equivalency, please!!! Try telling the French and Gemans that their stuff is not good enough for us!

Trust me, the Americans are even more parochial when it comes to anything made outside their boundaries!!

Getting something FDA approved is pretty difficult so you can bet the makers of this one have done their homework.

Once had to get seven deep sea tankers past the USCG in order to get them re-flagged Kuwaiti to American - a large team including me, that is. Every single piece of safety equipment had to be 'Made in America' before they'd accept it - lifeboats to engine room flood fire extinguishing. Then everything in the accommodation had to be equivalent to 'Made in America' if not actually American. All very well, but an American crew promptly blew a large chunk of side out of one ship.

The real reason - jobs for Americans, of course. They are just more brass necked about it than we are!

The CPAP Pro has now got CE marking and is available on EU-PAP.co.uk, we'll begin shipping them early next week so you can pre-order them now.

We've already received orders for this mask despite it only being on sale for a couple of hours, so there's a clearly a lot of interest in this mask.

It's been very well received in the US so we're looking forward to seeing how popular it will be over in the UK and Europe now. Anyone planning to order one, or has anyone done so already?

There's a brief new blog entry about the launch too. [/plug]

                        drool

Suspect I would have the same problem with the no-mask as I had with a MAD; constant drooling. Not a pretty sight...

Sigh, i start liking the sleepweaver and something else cuter comes along. Is peeping at the pics of it wrong? Am i being disloyal, will she know i've been thinking of going out with another mask? Will she strangle me in my sleep tonight? Not sure if i like the idea of sleeping with someone poking their fingers up my nose and air blowing out of them. How far up do they go and how much force must they be exerting on the inside of my nostrils, don't want to try it, find it's wonderful and realise after several years that my nostrils have stretched to the point that i am using a goodyear radial to seal the edges of my mask. (I am guessing thats a real tyre)

James - do you know if this Pro mask is available via the NHS. I am reluctant to spend out yet more money on masks that fail, yet still, after all these months, am going through hell with leakage, feelings of being suffocated, straps causing pain. The whole experience is so horrific, I put off going to bed. This Pro Mask looks as if it would allay a lot of my horrors.

Patsyw - high leakage and straps causing pain tell us for sure that you are over-tightening the straps! Loosen the straps until the mask floats over your face - let the cushion skirt do its work as in a hovercraft.

Without using straps at all - just holding the mask - find the place over your face where the mask is most comfotable and leak free. Up a bit, down a bit till you find the place. Let the mask move away from your face untiol a leak just begins - then rock the mask, a bit pushed toward your nose, a bit pushed toward your chin - till the leak just stops. Remember where the mask is relative to your nose and chin - very precisely remember. Now replicate that using the straps. Play with looseness to find comfort without leakage.
