  • Resmed Mirage Liberty

For the last few weeks I`ve been trying to get the Mirage Liberty to work but the sound of the air is louder than my hair dryer - in fact its like being in a Gale Force 10! And even when there are no leaks the face on my machine stays red. The only way I can get the face to turn green is to completely block off the vents on the plastic bit just above the tube. But I don`t think they`re meant to be blocked off. Any ideas where I`m going wrong? I`ve gone through the troubleshooting list in the User Guide under `mask too noisy` but can`t see what`s wrong.

    I am livid

I am livid with that ruddy hospital. No wonder my liberty mask hasn`t worked! I have just watched a Youtube video on fitting and cleaning of this mask and it got to the bit about dismantling the elbow and removing the `valve cap` and `valve` !!!!! Mine does not have a valve or a valve cap and it says in the video that these are important safety parts. No wonder it felt like being under flippin` Niagara Falls every night ! omg I have struggled for weeks every night trying to get the Red face to turn Green on my machine, more often than not ending up in tears. I was on the verge of giving up on CPAP completely.

Now I will probably have to wait weeks before they can forward the missing parts to me in the post.

      Careless

That does sound very careless of the hospital; however they should be able to get the parts or a full replacement mask in days.

If it s difficult to get to your sleep clininc you could buy a replacement elbow assembly yourself for £20.00 + p&p:

It took 3 days for mine to arrive after I broke the back of the elbow where it attaches to the mask.

Good luck withy the Liberty; it's a 'love-it-or-hate-it' mask; I'm in the 'love-it' camp.

What did they say? And thank the lord for YouTube! Nothing like seeing stuff online to understand them better.

Hello James - have phoned and they won`t send out parts. I have to take it back and get a whole replacement but goodness knows when that will be. It costs me a lot to get to the hospital and back so may just order a replacement elbow on line - its actually cheaper.

I shall have to check mine. I'm really not getting on with this mask, in fact I'm getting to hate it. When it fits it is really quiet but it takes nothing for the nasal things to fall out or twist or the worst thing is when the extension pipe comes off.

I'm ready to return mine and try to get an FX.. Are these on NHS yet?

                headgear

I have gone back to the Liberty after a couple of months with the Quattro FX; however I am using the headgear from the Q-FX on the Liberty with great results. Zero leaks and very comfortable.

Just need to let ResMed know.

                  Hi all
I believe various parts of the mask are available as spares - including the elbow connection which contains the valve and cap. If the hospital cant supply it but its the best mask for you, then it may be worth obtaining it off the manufacturer or another supplier.

                  good luck

Thanks Tallishbloke but I have taken the Liberty back now and got a different mask. Thanks for the thought anyway.

try to get a mirage Quattro mask... from speaking to my clinic and other people who suffer with getting a decent mask to fit,,,, the Quattro seems to come out very well as one of the better masks that gives a good fit and seal to a larger ammount of people than others...
Its the only mask i have (and i have accumulated around 10 now!!) that i can just throw on every night, not have to worry about if its positioned EXACTLY right,,, and it gives a complete seal with ZERO leaks for the entire night... even with my insane pressure of 19-20...

Its a little on the large side compares to some of the others i spose.. especially the new Quattro FX... but i still find it very comfortable,
Try 1 if you get a chance..
