  • Headaches anyone??

    Hello,

I just been given a CPAP this week from my hospital to help with chronic snoring and some "breath holding".

I,m wondering whether anyone else has major sinus headaches with their machine. Have also has a red bruise on the bridge of my nose. Normally I struggle with chronic sinusitus/rhinitus.

Anyone else having problems? Or any advice would be nice too :-)

    Thanks, Mia

    Hi Mia

Loosen the staps and your problems will reduce or disappaear. I know the mask starts to leak if you loosen the straps but you have to find the place where thay are tight enough not to leak and loose enough not to cause your problems. It takes delicacy of touch and a lot of patience. It is the art of successful PAPing.

      Hi Mia,

If you're new to CPAP Therapy, it will take a little while to get used to the machine and the benefits it brings.

Elsewhere on this site you will find Remzzz Face Mask Liners which will help stop any chafing of the mask on your skin.

        Hello and welcome!

If you report back that it's causing sinus problems they may reduce the pressure slightly or provide you with an autoset machine that will adjust as needed.

The pressure sores and bruises are normally caused by not having the straps quite right. If they're too loose then the mask will move and rub, too tight and the pressure on the nose will cause a sore. Most of us over tighten at first.

Looking forward to many more successful PAPing session's :-)

I have no medical knowledge but reading a radical diabetes diet book last night I think it was suggesting dairy products are a problem for those suffering sinusitis - is that right?

From what I have read on it, there is anecdotal (i.e. not scientifically validated) evidence that large amounts of Dairy produce may have an effect on Chronic Sinusitis.

The advice from reputable sources, not fad diet and health sites, is that it may help if you reduce the dairy intake, as for most people that would be a good move anyway, but not to cut it out completely as dairy products are an important source of Calcium and other good things.

                  Dairy stuff

                  Hi Folks,

I am going to reduce the amount of dairy I eat in the hope it helps even a little bit. As a vegetarian (for the past 20 years), I increased my volume of dairy produce ...... could be half of the problem :-)

Worth a go - so I'll give it a shot.

Many thanks for your advice :-)

                  Cheers, Mia

Hi every one I am Sheila and I have been using CPAP with a silicone gel nasal mask since last June. I also use Remzzz nasal liners and find it very comfy to wear. I find losing weight helps and I go to our local leisure center about 3 times a week and find my breathing easier now I have lost a lot of weight but I still have more to lose. I find I have much more energy and feel less tired now during the day. Good luck to you all using your machine.

Goat dairy is often much better tolerated than cows dairy. Be careful cutting your dairy if your a veggie.

                        Hi,

Yup ur right, don't want to miss out on the things i need - nutrients wise. Will try the goat products and see if it helps.

                        Thank you :-)

                          Allergies?

Hi--I am wondering if your sinus problem could be caused by allergies. A few things that cause allergies are Cow's Milk and Dairy Products -- Cheese (Esp Blue Cheese) --Eggs--Shrimp--Sunflower Seeds & Sunflower products like Oil--Mustard Greens--Strawberries--and Bananas. Try cutting each one out of your diet for a week (one at a time) to see if you feel any better. If you drink a lot of diet Soda Pop and use Artificial Sweetners cut those out of your diet too. The Diabetes and ALS foundation have found a connection between artificial sweetners and Fibromyalgia. Watch your diet closely to make sure you get enough nutrition. Hope this helps. x Berneta

Hi Berneta, I am keeping well and have lost nearly 3 stone in total so I am now down 2 dress sizes to 18 in U.K. I have taken in some garments and moved buttons where possible although I have had to buy some new things too. I still attend a weight watchers meeting weekly and go to our leisure center where I do aqua aerobics 3 times a week and use the fitness suite. I also belong to a retirement swim club that meets in Templemore Avenue swimming pool twice a week. My sister and I are going to Gumbet in Turkey for 2 weeks on 13th June so it will be nice to have sunny weather. How are you getting on with your treadmill? I hope you are keeping well. Love Sheila.
