  • New to CPAP - Full Face Mask & Dry Mouth Problem

Hi, I received my CPAP machine at the weekend and wondered if anyone had any advice.

My mask covers my nose and mouth as I breathe through my mouth.

I have been waking up with a dry mouth each morning and today woke up bloated. Awaiting a call back from the CPAP Nurse but wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience?

Have you been issued with a CPAP that has a humidifier on it? If so, you might need to turn up the dial slightly. I am still getting used to mine and get a bit frustrated that it heats the water up (naturally to make it condense and therefore moisten the air) and makes the warm air a bit over-bearing. Without it though my mouth is as dry as a bone in the morning.

With regard to the bloated feeling, I was told by my nurse that this can happen if they have set the pressure too high when callibrating it. I am having some of this issue myself and monitoring it to see if it settles down before I ask them to lower the pressure.

I got my machine yesterday, and I have a full face mask too. I woke several times with a dry mouth, so I guess it is normal.

I found that brushing my teeth helped a bit.

I jsut got a humidifer for my Resmed S8 ... they gave me the H4i and it seems to work pretty well most nights but a few nights I still wake with a dry mouth ... but nothing as bed as it used to be ...

Have been trying the Resmed Liberty Fx full face / nose pillars mask but not getting on that well with it so am mostly still using a Full Face Quattro

Whatever you wear and whatever pump you use ... bear with it ... its a bonus to be in the program and you will start to feel the benefits when the time is right for you .... Good luck

A humidifier should help with the dryness, but the bloated feeling is usually due to you gulping air while on the machine.
This may improve with use, but a few people just have to pt up with it, along with the side effect of expelling wind during the day
Sorry, but I don't know a cure for this, though a few say to sleep with your chin on your chest, I have my reservations as this would surely restrict the air going down your throat/windpipe and into your lungs which would defeat the purpose.
