  • Simple modifications to try

Just joined this forum although have been using a resmed cpap machine for some 6 years now. Have been through many of the problems that members have written about but my main ones have been 1- leaking face seal. 2 - noisy vent and 3- cold draughts directed at my partner. Leaking face seal is easily solved by spending some time during the night when leaking occurs by simply adjusting tension on the headgear straps. Too tight seems to be the main cause of problems (including nose scabbing) Slight loosening until leaking stops usually fixes this then after that a slight twiddling of the mask when leaking briefly restarts usually fixes this. Noisy vent is usually a mask design fault but with many masks the vent is covered by a clip on plastic cover. I simply use a thin layer of the foam filter from the CPAP machine inserted under this cover to reduce the noise considerably. Drafts causing discomfort to partner or self I have fixed by swivelling the vent to point upwards then securing the air tube to the mask by using a cable tie. If the cable tie is not too tightthe air pipe can easily be disconnected without removing the mask for those quick bathroom visits during the night. In the 6 years since being diagnosed with OSA I have not missed one night of use and average some 8 hours per night. (more if I can get away with it, but the dog needs walking early on each day) I even use my machine on overnight feries and camping trips by use of 12volt adapters. Still sometimes feel tired during the day but I put this down to doing too much as I am ageing somewhat. Keep trying and do not give up. The results are well worth it.
    Regards to all
