C-PAP mask and tubing........smell like plastic......?

If you have a CPAP machine with a nasal mask, and it is new, does the smell of the plastic make you feel ill? Anyone have this experience, and what did you do about it ?

Mostly newly manufacturered stuff has a slight smell to it. CPAP masks tend to come packed airtight so it it remains until, and after you open it. If I buy any goods with a bit of a smell I put it on the window ledge with the window open for a day or two, then wipe it off with hot soapy water and let it air again. Nine out of ten times it'll have gone completely.

Some people react more to the smell of chemicals and plastic than others. Washing and airing should suffice.

The washing part is really important to me. I do the whole washing thing of hoses and mask once a week but keep some antseptic cleansing wipes to wipe around the mask at night. Certainly the smell of plastic doesn't last.

I have a ComfortGel nasal mask and it smells strongly of the chemical in the soft gel padding, despite a few washings and airings.

I spoke to Respironics and they said there's no way of stopping it. It's a feature of the gel.

I find it puts me off using it.

Olbas Oil will clear your nasal passages and may well smother the plastic smell - or it may combine with it and make an even worse pong, but I doubt it.

Tigers Fan - When I ordered I also had problems. I don't think their software is fully geared up for international customers.
