dehydration

hi all,

last few days been waking up with dry mouth, so i thought, but i;m dehydrated, no matter how much fluid i drink, my thirst is not been quenched, been on CPAP 3 weeks, this has only just startd happening so dont know it its cos of cpap or not, this happened to anyone else?

Are you diabetic? It causes endless thirst

Also, untreated OSA messes with your metabolic processes. CPAP reverses a lot of those issues. I wouldn't be surprised if that had at least something to do with it.

hi everyone, ty for replies but answers r no no and no !!!! lol i aint diabetic, recent bloods show i;m borderline diabetic, no dont have humidifer, rung hospital today as even went to bed early last night so i;d not be thirsty and av to drink any more fluids it was that bad,
tech said a humidifier may help, , she wants me to humidifier bedromm first tonight to see if that helps

I have the same problem and have been on CPAP for a similar length of time.

This morning was the first morning I woke up WITHOUT dry mouth, but I'm still dehydrated, still getting the related headaches and seem to be constantly pee'ing (I'm sure you all really wanted to know that!). Im not drinking pint after pint after pint of water either to account for it.

I do use a humidifier which I bumped the temp up on last night so I think that helped the dry mouth. So I would defo recommend you get a humidifier as they seem to work wonders once set up correctly.

I hope James is right and that this is just correction of previous metabolic issues from untreated CPAP. I may get tested for diabetes if it doesn't improve.

Jason, I'd be very interested in hearing how you get on if that's OK?

I use a humidifier but still suffer from dry mouth so I use Biotene Oralbalance Saliva Replacement Gel, I find this helps a lot, I think the dry mouth is worse for mouth breathers

What weird stuff! Whodda thought? My local chemists could only come up with the liquid form - a few drops on your tongue. And presto! a definately worthwhile addition to my array of bedside CPAP accoutrements.
