  • Wives 'n' Girlfriends etc..

Ok its easy for me using a mask cos im single, my kids don't care about it and my cats would never moan or i wouldn't feed them.

But the notion occurred to me... Given that one day I might actually bring a lady home.., ahem, I just can't imagine a sleepy snuggle etc... with mask in tow... I mean how can you manage getting a good nights sleep and sharing your sleeping place with a partner (being totally PC here)! It must be fairly unpleasant for anyone not using CPAP to share a bed with a user even without romantic intentions..

I assume also that not all CPAP users are getting on fogies in their 40's either!

Whilst it's not a romantic view and perhaps not very practical either, I can think of worse things than CPAP affecting a (possible) relationship. It may be a bit of a shock but it helps that the looks can be made fun of easily, something you can make your advantage to break the ice.

People with diabetes need their jabs, asthma patients their inhalors... We need our CPAP. It's not the end of the world and in the end of the day, they should be attarcted to you for who you are; the fact your PJ's include a pump and a mask should have no bearing on this!

Well, if it's any consolation, my missus has a love/hate relationship with it. She hates the fact that once i'm "tooled up", I'm out of action for the night, but she appreiciates the better human being that I am now for having worn it.

I've been on CPAP for over 4 years now and I work away a lot. Strangely enough, she misses the noise when I'm not there and struggles to go to sleep without it !! LOL

If you get lucky, and you tell the young lady about yourself and your condition, there should be no problem, and if there is.....well, she probably ain't worth it

I happened across this old thread whilst browsing the website and thought I would stick in my own GF's opinion...

She has absolutely no problem with it (other than cold air blowing in her face when I turn to face her in the night...) as it stops me from snoring which is a far worse problem! My snoring has actually ended relationships for me in the past far more than I'm certain a CPAP machine would!

In addition, when it comes to, *ahem* 'snuggling', thne she has said it could be fun for her to try some breath play by shutting off my airways... I think she was only joking though (I hope!). That said, I'm not going to upset her too much in case she puts a kink in my pipe.... If you see what I mean... LOL

The best answer for anyone worrying about this is simply not to, and instead to make a few jokes about it - worked for me!!!
