  • Side Effects - The wind doth blow.....

I am now managing to get through a full night's sleep with the mask on fairly often - though it can be a bit hit and miss yet.

However when I do go through six or seven hours and wake up - I feel rather bloated, as though I have swallowed air. I am a mouth breather and use a full face mask..and I have noticed morning flatulence...now there's a nice thought.

Also - a slight wheeziness in my breathing which goes off - I am not asthmatic - and I quit smoking nearly 5 years ago now.

Are these common side effects? Anyone else had similar? Or am I just a whinging hypochondriac?

    [x] All of the above

    Just kidding.

The bloating and 'reverse CPAP' on the other end down south are quite common. Exactly why some get it and others, I've not seen a consensus on but with most people, it passes after a few weeks or months without intervention. Some can speed it up by propping up the head end of the bed, if that's an option at all. For others, it's a sign the pressure may need some tweaking.

It does seem to happen much more with mouth breathers with full face masks compared to nasal masks, I guess to do with the angle air comes in.

You'll find a few threads here on the flatulence, there is a digestive supplement that seems to work well to reduce it, can't remember the name of it though but a search on the topic should yield some results.

Right I did do a search and found I was not alone. Luckily I live alone and there is a Danish proverb "Everyone loves the smell of their own farts" If there isn't a proverb then I made it up....

I have just managed four nights in a row of sleeping throughout the night with the mask on - average seven or eight hours - still getting the wind - I must be swallowing air. I have also been sleeping for an extra hour in the morning when I have taken the mask off....this is much more sleep than I usually have...However this morning I had to get up - as i was going out - and feel really light headed and a bit dizzy - I was looking forward to bounding about with energy.....???
