  • Breathing Problems

I picked up my machine to help keep my airways open last Thursday from the Royal Brompton Hospital.

I know it's early days and I have to get used to it, but my chest has been hurting the past few days and I think it's the exertion of breathing out with the mask on. I know it's this exertion of breathing out that forces the airway open, but I was wondering if anyone else has suffered with an aching chest because of it?

I'm thinking of asking for a mask that covers my nose only, but as I haven't really give the large mask a chance yet, I'll continue for a few more days.

Hi and welcome to the forums.

It's quite common to have some initial chest pains as the lungs aren't used to this kind of breathing. It should settle after a while without any changes. If it doesn't change, talk with your consultant about tweaking things to accommodate it. Perhaps the pressure need changing or certain comfort features enabled.
