  • Recommendations for CPAP Machines

Recently diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. I am looking into getting a CPAP machine. I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Can anyone make any recommendations for the following:

    1. A good supplier in Toronto. So far I have checked out Medigas and InspiAir.

    2. A good CPAP machine. So far I have mainly looked at certain models manufactured by Respironics and ResMed. Does anyone have any feedback on these manufacturers or any others?

    Thanks.

Sorry I cant help with Canada as I live in the UK, but I use a ResMed S8 Escape CPAP and am very pleased with it. It is quiet and compact. if you are into playing with the clinical settings they are easy to get at. However I wouldnt suggest changing anything until you know what you are doing.

      A good deal better

      Hi agiannetta

      Welcome!

There are probably as many opinions as to the best machine as there are machines.

I thoroughly recommend an APAP rather than a CPAP (Automatic/Constant) and I absolutely recommend an APAP with exhalation relief. Such a machine is a RemStar 'M' Series with A-Flex.

As the machine is going to be your sleeping companion for some time, I suggest you afford yourself the best you can. Resmed and Respironics are the two giants of the industry. I like Resmed masks the most.

Can't help with a supplier in Toronto - if you just go for the best deal you can get, you can rely on manufacturers warranty even if the retailer let's you down. (I bought my machine in the US but Respironics UK unquestioningly accepted responsibility for a repair.)

Good luck with your therapy. This is a good place for advice and support as you travel toward good sleep again.

Whilst agreeing with TF's comments, it must be said that an APAP will cost you considerably more than a CPAP, so if money is a problem then I can assure you that a CPAP will do the same job, but in a different way. Its a bit like comparing a small basic Ford with a top of the range Mercedes, they both get you from A to B but one gives you a few bumps along the way whilst the other smoothes everything out for you.
